Predominantly single-family on quarter- to half-acre lots, weighted toward mid-century construction with substantial renovation activity. The western side toward Haworth runs larger and quieter; the streets near Closter Dock Road are more compact.
Getting to Manhattan
No rail. The 168 bus runs to Port Authority, and the George Washington Bridge is twenty minutes by car off-peak. Many residents drive to Hudson-side ferries or park-and-ride lots instead.
Schools
Closter runs its own K-8 district, then sends students to Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest — shared with Demarest, Haworth and Harrington Park.
Where people actually go
Closter Plaza carries the day-to-day retail. The Belskie Museum of Art and Science sits on High Street. The Tenakill Brook greenway and the Nature Center at Tenafly are both close.
