Bergen County towns / Pascack Valley

Westwood

Westwood is the Pascack Valley's downtown. The surrounding boroughs — Washington Township, River Vale, Hillsdale, Emerson — are largely residential, and when they need a restaurant, a hardware store or a farmers market, they come here.

The Pascack Valley's downtown — Westwood Avenue has the restaurants, the hardware store and the farmers market the surrounding boroughs drive to.

What you are buying

A wide range for a borough of eleven thousand: capes and colonials on small lots near the centre, larger properties toward the Emerson and Washington Township lines, plus a growing stock of downtown apartments and townhomes. It is one of the more attainable walkable towns in north Bergen County.

Getting to Manhattan

Westwood station sits on the Pascack Valley Line, running to Hoboken with a PATH or ferry connection, or to Secaucus for Penn Station. Peak trips are around an hour and ten minutes. Service is less frequent than the Main Line, so schedules matter.

Schools

The Westwood Regional School District is unusual in that it serves both Westwood and Washington Township as a single K-12 system, rather than the send-receive arrangements common elsewhere in the valley.

Where people actually go

Westwood Avenue carries the restaurant density — more per capita than anywhere else in the Pascack Valley. The Saturday farmers market runs from the veterans park. The Pascack Brook County Park has trails and playing fields at the northern edge.

Who Westwood suits

Buyers who want a walkable centre and rail access without Ridgewood pricing, and downsizers looking for a downtown apartment in a suburban town.
